Chocolate 101: History and Tasting

Join Francine Segan, noted food historian and author, for a talk on the rainforest treasure--chocolate. Learn chocolate’s history, starting with its New World origins. And trace its journey, and transformation, in the New World, with a special look at the history of chocolate in England. Discover the roles Christopher Columbus, Hernan Coretes, Cassanova and others played. Discover how high society experienced chocolate in the 17th and 18th century society and about the 19th century chocolate innovations of Henri NestlO, Rudolphe Lindt and Frank Mars that turned chocolate from a grainy bitter brew into the treat we know and love today. Discover how chocolate goes from bean to bar as you are guided through a tasting of various types of fine chocolates.

$12 per person, $10 for students
