Rebecca Suerdieck is a Virginia historian committed to sharing lesser-known stories from Virginia's past. Throughout her career she has researched, written, and produced many educational programs about early Virginia.
Seeking a deeper way to continue to tell stories about Jamestown, Virginia, she began to research and eventually brought to life, through historical interpretation, one of the first English women in the New World, Marye Bucke, the Minister's Wife. Since 2006, Rebecca's interpretation of this historical figure has educated thousands of people each year, and her school programs, which have reached hundreds of classrooms across the United States, have garnered numerous accolades.
This presentation is the true story of how Rebecca became “Marye Bucke, The Minister’s Wife at Jamestown.” Attendees will learn what is known about the real Marye Bucke, how this information was revealed, and discover stories of faith in early Virginia.
Rebecca's new book about Marye Buck will be available for purchase at the event.
