About the play
Henry V tells the story of King Henry's conquest of France. Full of rousing motivational speeches about the brotherhood of soldiers, it shines a light on the nature of leadership and the costs of war. Estimated run time: 90 minutes
About the performance
Weather permitting, this intimate performance will be staged outdoors in the sunken garden of Agecroft Hall. Audience members are encouraged to bring along seat cushions, blankets, and/or lawn chairs on which to sit during the 90-minute production. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be moved inside and will take place in the Williams Room of Agecroft Hall.
About the company
Elsewhere Shakespeare is a small collective of actor-managers that began in 2019 in an attempt to apply the DIY ethos of the punk scene to producing Shakespeare. They believe that most things that make Shakespeare plays cheaper, faster, and easier to produce also make them more enjoyable both for actors and audiences.
They will only rehearse for about 10 hours in the day leading up to the performance. And Elsewhere shows do not utilize a director or stage manager: their process is entirely ensemble-led. Actors will make their own performance choices, pick their own costumes, and collectively decide how to tell the story.
And with at least a third of the cast changing between the two performances of each play, the whole story will take on new directions and new meanings as different cast members bring their own interpretation to the text.
Elsewhere usually stages their 90-min shows in unconventional spaces like bars, art galleries, basements, and occasionally folks' living rooms. But they are thrilled to bring their ragtag work to a classy joint for once.
