Unpacking the Crates: A Tudor House Arrives in Jazz-Age Richmond - A Lunchtime Tea & Lecture

  • Agecroft Hall & Gardens 4305 Sulgrave Road Richmond, VA, 23221 United States (map)

In 1926, while America's Jazz Age was in full swing, a Tudor manor house, packed piece by piece into crates, left industrial Salford, England, bound for a new life in Richmond, Virginia. What do the Agecroft archives reveal about this audacious journey?

Help yourself to a lunchtime tea and then settle in as Executive Director Anne Kenny-Urban turns back the clock to the Roaring Twenties. With slides and images from the archives of Agecroft Hall, we'll open the crates on untold stories of the house's rebuilding, its ties to England — both inside and out — and how this centuries-old transplant fit into owner T.C. Williams Jr.'s grand vision for the neighborhood of Windsor Farms.

It's sure to be a lively afternoon!

Tickets: $49 per person; 20% discount for museum members
