We’re taking you back in time to look at education and learning during the Tudor and Stuart era.

Imagine that you were a young girl or boy back in England during the 1500s and 1600s.  Would you have been able to attend school? Or would you have a tutor who came into your home? What subjects would you have learned? We’ll explore these questions and more throughout the day.  As we look at these topics, we’ll introduce you to a few characters.  Some of these characters are composites people that we have based on historical information.  We look at their situations to understand the different forms of education.  Some of these characters are familiar, like Queen Elizabeth I and William Shakespeare. We will look at how their educations reflected their social class.  And we will see how their educations affected their work as a ruler and a playwright, respectively.
